Dr. Barbara Kempf:
When I was growing up in the Midwest, I could not imagine becoming anything but a veterinarian. I graduated from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. For the past 17 years, I have worked at veterinary practices all over the country. From Kansas to Missouri to California to Wisconsin and Florida, my experience in these different areas has lead me to a greater understanding of veterinary medicine and the human animal bond.
I have special interests in many different areas in veterinary medicine. I am member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, The International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management, American College of Veterinary Nutrition and the American Veterinary Dental Society. I am also very interested in internal medicine and teaching you about your pet, so you can have the information you need for a long and happy relationship with your pet. Continuing education is an important part of my life and veterinary philosophy. I strive to learn new things every day. I have the advantage of my wonderful support staff that each bring new things for me to learn, from different ways of doing things to the latest that the Mayo ICU has to offer!
I currently have 2 dogs, both Shelties, that I am attempting to compete in agility. It is a fun learning experience for all of us. I also have 6 cats. There are 2 sets of brothers that love to hunt lizards and think they all belong on my pillow and 2 from the clinic that are just umm -- visiting my house for the weekend-- I will bring them back- someday!
In my spare time, I love to both on road and off road biking. I am an avid scuba diver (but I will skip the shark dives THANK YOU). My family and I take every opportunity we can to camp and generally explore Florida. I am both a retired surfer and rugby player, but I still like to play in the ocean whenever I can.
