What a Vet Nurse Does in Surgery Video

Role of a Veterinary Technician in surgery

A veterinary Technician or nurse is both similar and different in their role in the care of your pet when compared to the role of a human nurse. A veterinary nurse preforms all of the same functions as a human nurse (vital signs, identifying problems, IV catheters, medications and monitoring for pain and discomfort pre and post surgery). Veterinary technicians also have to function as lab technicians, both drawing the blood, running the blood work and notifying the doctor of the results. They function as radiology techs by measuring, taking and developing any needed X-rays. They function as nurse anesthetists by administering and maintaining anesthesia under the doctors supervision.
